Unusual Bathtub Materials, Part 1
Everybody is familiar with your standard acrylic and fiberglass bathtubs, or even the heavier and more expensive cast iron tubs. However, tubs canĀ be made of quite a lot of other materials that you might not have thought of. Let’s examine a few of these, and we’ll revisit this topic in a future posting.
Wood bathtubs look great and will certainly add a unique rustic touch to your bathroom. Sadly, even with the best care, they just won’t last that long, since the wood will eventually rot and warp. Some woods are better than others, though - teak tops the list
Continuing with the rustic theme, we now look at copper bathtubs. Copper is probably most sterile tub material available and has a truly stunning appearance, especially when it is handcrafted into a high-end tub. You will pay quite dearly for such a luxury, so be warned.
Porcelain bath tubs are technically steel tubs with a porcelain enamel. They are reasonably priced, very durable and easy to maintain. Porcelain tubs also keep their color and gloss for a long time.
On the high end of steel, you can opt for a stainless steel bathtub. These stark yet gorgeous tubs are also very durable and easy to maintain, as well as being environmentally friendly.
Who has ever heard of foam bathtubs? Well, they’re not completely made of foam - a base made of fiberglass or other material is covered by foam to create a slip-resistant, very safe tub. They make a great choice for kids and the elderly.
